Chemistry 1, Vol 2 – Section 10 – Limiting Reactants – Part 1

In this section, we introduce the concept of the limiting reactant in a chemical
reaction. A limiting reactant is the reactant that is consumed first in the reaction,
thereby stopping the reaction. We work numerous example problems that show
how to find the limiting reactant in a reaction and use this info to calculate how
much product will be produced.

Magnetic Confinement and the Earth’s Aurora

In this lesson, we explore a two very cool applications of particles in a
magnetic field. The first is how to confine a particle in a magnetic bottle
and can be used to study nuclear fusion and also spacecraft propulsion
systems. The second application is how the Aurora occurs on Earth,
which has to do with the solar wind interacting with the Earth’s magnetic
field.
